Communication with heavens
Naomi Goodsir Bois d'Ascèse
Rarely a perfume touches my soul. It needs to have something special, something divine and make me feel like communicating with heavens. I was longing to have Bois d'Ascèse in my collection, I wanted to feel the sensation of wearing a perfume that transcends me somewhere else.
Like it is said, the perfume that strongly reminds of a blazing chapel. I remember my addiction to the church Saint Sulpice in Paris. Every time I entered, I felt some kind of worshiping of that glorious sacred monument. Every time the one enters will feel soft lingering of incense in the air. Once I entered, incense was smelling intensively and somebody played the organs. The melody was floating between the walls while incense made me feel between the earth and heaven. Incense inside of Bois d'Ascèse strongly reminds me of that magical moment. For all incense haters, don't worry, it's not as pronounced as in Avignon or Cardinal, just gives a special holy touch to the composition.
What makes it really special is incredibly good burned wood. The smoke that is inside is divine. I am a huge fan of smoky compositions that are captivating and without compromise. It reminds me of trembling earth. I can perfectly imagine All Blacks burning the wood before their Haka because this smell gets them adrenaline and feeling outside of this Earth.
Bois d'Ascèse is definitively one of the scents where you can easily guess what "niche perfume" really is. There is no compromise in this composition of burned wood, incense, whisky, cinnamon, amber, cistus, labdanum. Even for me, who smelled hundreds of perfumes, makes me feel unique, one of a kind. Perfect creation!
