Grenadille d'Afrique Aedes de Venustas Review !

Dream of Africa

Grenadille d'Afrique bottle color

To my address was delivered small little thing, a sample of the newes Aedes de Venustas perfume - Grenadille d'Afrique! Since I am Aedes fan and appreciate every scent they have, I was opening the box like a child. As soon as I opened the envelope, I was magnified by the warm smell coming from the inside.

How and why Aedes is creating so incredibly good fragrances is a mystery to me. I think I really found myself inside of this brand. There is something that suits me so good, every mood they try to transcendent is transported to my brain cells. That makes me think that Karl and Robert have the similar taste as mine. The play with neo-baroque is also very cool because nobody really did it well so far. If you look at the Aedes perfumery in New York, the word baroque really has its meaning.

This scent is inspired with the noble materials that could be found in incredible Africa - "Blackwood, a member of the rosewood family, the rare, costly Dalbergia melanoxylon (literally “black wood”) yields one of the hardest and densest woods in the world. The Ancient Egyptians, who called it h’bny, fashioned precious furniture from its heartwood, whose color ranges from deep purple to brownish black – the modern word “ebony” carries the memory of that distant past. In Tanzania, the Makonde people, who know it as mpingo, use it to create spectacular, highly prized Tree of Life carvings.".

The atmosphere of the perfume

It's a theme of bensoin, warm woods, hot stones, steam and vetiver! Yes, ladies and gentleman, you have heard well, all of that is inside. It's a warm composition from the beginning. I think some will dislike it because of deep intoxicating resins inside that are in the base. There is green, fresh accord in the opening and in the heart that largely reminds me of hay. It evolves into hot, warm scent of dry earth, hot stones and burned grass. Finally, in the end, a soft touch of wood we are used to and some smooth vetiver that is like on the other side of the tunnel, but yet present.

Grenadille d'Afrique is a perfume with character, with charisma and attitude. It's not a love/hate perfume, but more a question of style and preference. It's for those who have taste in deep woody scents and resins. One image that is evergreen - I think Don Johnson would wear it with his linen blazer and V t-shirt. This can be a badass perfume if properly worn!
